Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant

Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant in our Central Office’s Fiscal Division.

The selected candidate will record, report, bill, and collect on outstanding project receivables and other debts owed to VDOT. The position is also responsible for monitoring the reimbursement process of eligible expenditures posted in appropriate systems.

This position’s specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to: maintaining relevant accounting procedures in accordance with Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures; performing and documenting analyses of business processes, complex financial data, issues and problems to support fiscal operations; providing technical assistance and guidance to VDOT divisions and districts; conducting receivables processing activities; performing reconciliation activities; representing Fiscal Division during agency-wide trainings, task forces, and meetings; monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing close-out activities; reviewing and analyzing financial data and preparing accurate and timely reports.
 

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to prepare financial and statistical reports.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to effectively manage time and work multiple assignments.
• Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate financial data in compliance with applicable accounting directives and procedures.
• Skills using automated financial and collection systems.
• Ability to work as a team member and simultaneously accomplish multiple priorities.
• Ability to perform in-depth financial reconciliations.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and work as a team player.
• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and demonstrate high organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Knowledge of State, Federal, and agency policies and procedures regarding applicable internal controls.
 

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in financial analysis, fund accounting, financial management, and business administration.
• Ability to interpret contracts.
• Experience working with state and federal policies and procedures.
• Experience extracting data from financial systems using queries and other techniques.
