Comic Writer

Job Summary:

Resilience, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the mental health of students, as well as reducing mass shootings, suicide, and depression. Resilience, Inc also works to combat declining test scores, low student engagement, and a slew of other social issues

Our organization focuses on offering Social Emotional Learning tools to enable K-12 schools to teach emotional intelligence through five core topics; self-awareness, self-control, social awareness, relationship manageEWGRIYPment, goal setting, and effective decision-making. Resilience, Inc. also provides tools for acquiring and maintaining inspiration, hope, and overall well-being.

Resilience offers unpaid internship programs that require at least a 4 month commitment with a minimum of 5 hours per week. There are flexible start and end dates with the option to continue after meeting the minimum requirement

Although this is an unpaid internship, there is the opportunity to earn school credit. Some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.

As an unpaid Comic Writer Intern, you will play a vital role in creating and expanding upon existing comic book storylines that aim to enhance children's social and emotional learning on topics such as bullying, motivation, confidence, and more. Your responsibilities will include conducting subject matter research, maintaining continuity, and collaborating with the Comics Team to develop engaging and authentic comic book narratives. This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful storytelling while gaining valuable experience in the comic book industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in developing and creating stimulating and entertaining comic book volumes tailored toward a K-12 audience.
  • Familiarize yourself with the comic book / graphic novel format.
  • Collaborate with the other members of the writing team to edit and proofread previously written material, ensuring a high standard of quality, grammar, and consistency throughout the series.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to receive new instructions and communicate with the other members of the comics team.
  • Communicate with members of the artist team to create a product everyone can be satisfied with.
  • Contribute actively to discussions and offer creative insights.

 

Qualifications 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Work independently.
  • Ability to work on a team and attend weekly remote meetings.
  • Strong passion for creative writing and storytelling.
  • Reliable, punctual.
  • Pay attention to details.
  • Consistently communicate with team members.
  • An open mind and eager to improve critical skills.
  • Minimum of 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility during exams week.
  • Strong passion for the comic book medium!

 

Must provide a portfolio of narrative-based written works; i.e., short stories, prose, scripts, etc. that best display your fitness as a collaborative comic book writer.

While compensation is not provided, the internship offers valuable learning opportunities, mentorship, and the chance to contribute to impactful comic book storytelling for children's social and emotional learning.
