Youth Development Intern

Job Title: Youth Development Internship- Summer Camp Counselor Experience

About Us: Circle F Dude Ranch Camp, a premier for-profit coed Summer Camp, is celebrating 74 years in continuous operation. We are seeking vibrant, adventurous, and caring Interns to join our summer counselor team. Position Overview: As a Circle F Dude Ranch Camp Counselor Intern, you will play a crucial role as the primary caregiver for each camper, responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and implementing a variety of activities. You'll guide campers in their personal growth and daily living skills throughout the summer.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supervision and Care:
   • Supervise and care for a group of 10 to 12 campers aged 6 to 16.
   • Implement lesson plans and cabin expectations in line with our camp's mission.
2. Program Leadership:
   • Lead, operate, and supervise activities in various areas, including Waterfront, Extreme Sports, Climbing, General Sports, Horseback Riding, and Creative and Performing Arts.
   • Participate in training sessions and obtain Lifeguard Certification (for eligible candidates).
3. Communication and Reporting:
   • Work closely with staff members in a cooperative environment.
   • Provide daily written and oral reports to direct supervisors.
   • Maintain accurate records, including log sheets, bunk reports, sign-in/out sheets.
4. Scheduling and Responsibilities:
   • Adhere to multiple schedules and responsibilities, including leading meal times and camp reflections.
   • Patrol areas at night and lead evening programs and group games.
5. Training and Development:
   • Engage in all training workshops provided during the staff development period.
   • Continuously develop skills and knowledge in various program areas.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age requirement: 18 years, preferably completed first year of college or began college classes.
• Understanding of the developmental needs of young people.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills to relate positively and professionally to youth and adults.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Interest and experience in at least one of our program-specific areas.
• Willingness to train in other areas as deemed necessary by the camp.

• Youth Behavioral Management Cycle
• Teaching independence and responsibility to young people
• Conflict management and resolution
• Camper hygiene and cleanliness
• Addressing bullying in a youth development setting
• Handling homesickness in an overnight program
• Leadership skills development through age-appropriate games and programs
• Communication skills development with both adults and youth
• Understanding the responsibility of reporting concerns of harassment and abuse.
