Weld Production Engineering Intern

Position Overview
The Weld PE Intern will assist in various engineering and quality control tasks within the welding department, focusing on improving operational efficiency and part quality. This role involves collaboration with engineers and other team members to analyze processes, gather data, and implement solutions that enhance productivity and reliability in welding operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Analysis and Improvement: Analyze models, robots, and bolt locations to identify issues and create solutions for better efficiency. Conduct time studies to find ways to reduce tact time and mitigate bottleneck issues. Introduce cycle time monitors in the production area to improve efficiency. Develop troubleshooting protocols to address these issues promptly and ensure minimal downtime in production.
  • Collaboration and Quality Control: Collaborate with Body Quality Control (QC) and Weld PE teams to investigate moving part quality concerns through data collection using check fixtures and metrology equipment aimed at improving part quality. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of welding operations through advanced vision technology.
  • Reporting and Process Optimization: Work alongside engineers to develop Macros that streamline the generation of weekly reports, reducing time spent on reporting tasks. Identify areas within the shop that could benefit from technological advancements learned during academic studies.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a minimum 3.0 institutional GPA. 
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, CATIA, or SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks. 
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
