Patent Law Intern

Founded with a belief that everyone has the power to create, Neo IP is a nationally recognized law firm focused on integrating patents into the overall business strategy of our clients. We help a wide variety of clients, from emerging startups to international corporations, create business solutions and navigate the ever-changing intellectual property space. We are looking for motivated law students who are excited about technology, patents, and innovation to join our Durham-based patent law firm for a paid position this upcoming summer.

During your summer with Neo IP, you will:

  • Work directly with our IP professionals and be assigned an experienced mentor for the summer
  • Be trained in the substantive and procedural aspects of our practice and patent prosecution 
  • Develop your research and writing skills while becoming familiar with numerous emerging technologies
  • Participate in networking and social opportunities

Job Responsibilities

Our interns directly serve the intellectual property needs of our clients. Interns can expect to:

  • Monitor industries for patent and market trends 
  • Review patent applications and prosecution history
  • Complete patentability reports
  • Draft prosecution documents for attorney review

Position Requirements Include:

  • Strong technical background in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or high-tech
  • Demonstrated technical writing and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented and excellent time management
  • Passion for technology
  • Be eligible to sit for the patent bar (USPTO Requirements)
  • Be able to work on-site in our Durham office

Students are currently being considered for the summer. This position is based in our Durham, NC office with a 40 hours per week commitment. Strong summer performance could lead to hiring for throughout the school year, and our summer program is designed to feed into full-time attorney positions.
