Evening Peer Tutor

The Academic Success Center is seeking Evening Peer Tutors who are responsible for assisting fellow students in understanding and mastering course material. Peer Tutors provide academic support, clarify concepts, and help students develop effective study strategies. Primarily hiring for the Fall 2024 with the potential to continue through Winter 2025, depending on performance and course subject utilization.

 

Pay Rate: $15/hour

Courses Needed (Must have received an A- or A Grade in the course at Oakland University to Qualify): 

  • MTH 0661, 0662, 1441, 1554, and/or 1555
  • CHM 1440, 1450, 2340, and/or 2350
  • PHL 1000

Duties:

  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn
  • Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions
  • Provide strategies to enhance understanding of course material
  • Utilize active listening to identify students' needs

Additional Information:

  • Current Available Shifts:
    • Tuesdays, from 6-8PM
    • Wednesdays from 7:30-10PM

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with one or more listed courses completed at OU.
  • Second-semester freshman standing or higher
  • Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored
  • Adequate demonstration of time/task managing skills
  • Must complete up to 10 hours of paid training toward tutor certification
  • Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member. Faculty can access and complete the form using the following link: OU Faculty Recommendation Form
  • Work Study applicants are welcome!
