Research Assistant
Job Description Summary
A Research Assistant position is available within the laboratory of Dr. Michael Risner at the Eye Research Center of Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. The research in this position centers on understanding the impacts of glaucoma affects lipid metabolism and lipid-protein binding in ocular tissues. Towards meeting this goal, the Research Assistant will work with the Principal Investigator to:
- Transfect bacteria with defined plasmids for the expression and purification of proteins
- Perform SDS-PAGE to measure protein purity
- Validate protein-lipid binding for downstream experimental measures
- Maintain transgenic animal colonies via genotyping (PCR and gel electrophoresis) and implementing targeted breeding strategies
- Create and modify experimental protocols for transgenic mouse breeding and protein expression, purification, and binding.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 3 months of experience in support of laboratory investigations
