Education & Teaching Artist Apprenticeship
The Summer Education Apprentices will work closely with the Education and Community Programs Manager to imagine, realize, coordinate, and implement the summer camp programs at The Station, Chicago Children’s Theatre’s home. Apprentices will gain work experience in arts education by directly working with children and teaching artists every day. Additionally, they will set goals and become aware of their growth throughout the summer, all while working with professional artist-educators.
We have the following Apprentice positions available for summer 2025: Design Apprentice, Drama Apprentice, Music Apprentice, and Early Childhood Apprentice.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Assist and provide classroom support to Lead Teaching Artists in the classroom. Classes range in discipline and include story-telling, music, devising, theatre arts, dance, craft, design, & puppet making
- Prepare and reset classrooms for programming
- Plan and execute multiple hour-long lessons throughout the summer with mentorship
- Lead games during classes
- Assist with transitions and lunch time
- Assist with the camp show, whether it be through being backstage, helping write the script or songs, helping to create props and costumes, supporting individual students, etc.
- Work with students ages 4-14 in groups and one-on-one
Time Commitment:
- June 16 - August 15, 2025*
- Approximately 25-35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9:30am-5:30pm
- Ideal candidate maintains a consistent schedule
- Early June in-person training
*dates slightly shorter for Early Childhood Apprentice
Compensation:
- $17/hr for up to 25-35 hours a week
- Additional hours will be available for after care and before care
- Available for college credit with participating institutions
Qualifications
- Rising Junior, Senior, or recent college graduate
- Interest or experience in performance and craft (acting, storytelling, singing, song writing, film making, painting, drawing, design, puppetry, etc.)
- An interest in arts education and teaching
- Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility, ability to work independently, initiative
