Graduate Assistant in e-Learning and Instructional Support

Job Description:

This position is ideal for students who are interested in developing skills in supporting faculty/instructors, teaching and learning, instructional design, and higher education, though many of the skills you will develop are broadly applicable in a variety of workplace settings. Graduate Research Assistants (RAs) are selected for excellence in scholarship and potential as researchers. We are hiring a full-time Graduate Assistant. Full-time graduate research assistants will work up to 20 hours per week and must be enrolled in at least 8 credits in Fall and Winter semesters. Research activities should relate directly to the student’s degree requirements and should be reasonably expected to contribute to the student’s academic program. You should not consider that all Research is done in a lab.

This position will begin in Fall Semester 2025.

Qualifications:

Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled for at least 8 credits for the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate coursework and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).

The e-Learning and Instructional Support office is seeking Graduate Assistant to join the Moodle Support Help Desk team. This position does not require prior technology experience as we offer a full training program. You must be a full time graduate student at Oakland University to qualify. 

The selected candidate will:

  1. Provide online, phone, and chat support to faculty, staff, and students who need help with e­-learning programs including Moodle and Zoom.
  2. Assist the e-LIS Instructional Design team to develop instructional materials (videos, documentation, learning activities, course reviews, etc.).
  3. Research and test emerging educational technologies and new software versions of the programs we support.
  4. Perform reception duties, including answering phones and entering support tickets into an online ticketing system.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working on a team and collaborating on projects.
  • Ability to complete work by established deadlines.
  • Customer service experience and/or experience in an online learning environment (as a student or teacher) can be helpful in this role.

Tuition:

Tuition (8 credits per semester; fall/winter only) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.  

Compensation:

Student will receive a pay check (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.
