About Howell Nature Center

The Howell Nature Center provides a comprehensive education, recreation, summer camp, and wildlife facility for individuals and groups. Filled with mutual love and respect, the Howell Nature Center teaches people to be faithful caretakers of one another and the world around us. The Howell Nature Center is a non-profit 501c3 organization (EIN 47-4324628) funded primarily through private donations, programs and special events. The HNC has more than 270 acres of environmental and outdoor education space. We offer a variety of programs designed specifically to educate students about our natural world. Each year, thousands of school children, teachers, and adults experience nature up-close and personal by exploring plants, water, and our landscape. Our programs closely correlate to Michigan’s Grade Level Content Expectations and Common Core State Academic Standards. HNC is also home to Livingston County’s only zoo, Wild Wonders Wildlife Park, which plays a significant role in educating the public about species of Michigan wildlife and how we as humans can live in harmony with the wild animals that enrich our environment. Wildlife Rehabilitation Intern

May 2019 - August 2019 Howell, MI
“This was an amazing experience. As a rehab intern, I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of Michigan wildlife including opossums, squirrels, woodchucks, songbirds, raptors, ducks, snapping turtles, and more. Interns assist with a variety of tasks, including clinic intakes, cleaning cages, preparing daily food, hand feeding orphans, administering medications, and releases. The clinic staff are all knowledgeable and always willing to teach.”

Zookeeper Intern

May 2018 - August 2018 Howell, MI
“It was a great hands-on experience: working with animals one-on-one (with training before to make you and the animal feel comfortable) , learning their behaviors and preferences, preparing their food and enrichments, cleaning and doing maintenance on exhibits, answering questions from the public while feeding, and assisting in raptor physicals.”
