Investment Banking Summer Analyst, Loan Syndications

What I liked

Involved in real work from the beginning (worked with the DCM team on over 10 live deals through the summer, went to bank meetings as "analyst"), earned trust to develop my own pitch books for potential or ongoing deals. Cumulative model project and presentation aided my learning of the loan markets and really cultivated my entire experience.

What I wish was different

I wish Villanova would offer more in terms of teaching students about the loan market as I came in knowing next to nothing.

Advice

Enter this internship with an open mind to learn and an acceptance that you wont know everything from the get go. Become a sponge and ask many questions, the Syndications team is more than willing to help.

Corporate Banking Summer Analyst

What I liked

I liked how open everyone was. I was able to meet with people from almost every division from marketing to syndications to foreign exchanges and they were all happy to meet with an intern to give advice and talk about their experiences within the industry. They were very laid back compared to other banks.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to work on more deals and do more analytical work. A lot of time on the job was spent working on prospecting rather than on the more analytical side which was very frustrating given that my role was supposed to be a more analytical one. At the firm, there will be a lot of down time so a majority of it was spent reading the WSJ and such.

Advice

I would definitely suggest future interns to be very open minded with their experiences. Halfway through my experience I realized I wanted to explore different aspects of finance such as investment management and investment banking rather than staying with corporate banking. I would definitely suggest to be excited about doing the little grunt work because it definitely shows and your managers will be way more likely to bring you to client meetings and work on more complex things. Be very open and willing to learn and your team will be more than helpful to teach you.

What I liked

The ability to network with so many employees in different lines of business across the whole footprint. I met hundreds of people in the branches across D.C. and VA and I also met the senior leadership such as the CEO and CMO that work out of the headquarters in Pittsburg, PA.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more structured tasks that we could complete when we completed the things we were told to do earlier in the day.

What I liked

I love the culture of PNC! Everyone is so welcoming, kind, and willing to help you learn. My internship in wealth management was enlightening and helped me apply classroom concepts to everyday business situations. Also, I loved being able to travel- you go to Pittsburgh twice throughout he duration of the internship and meet up with the rest of the interns. It was a great learning experience.

Give it your all! This experience was nothing short of amazing and led to a full time offer!

Corporate and Institutional Banking: Relationship Management and Credit Products Intern

What I liked

I loved the culture of PNC and all of its employees I got to work alongside with everyday. Everyone I met was super helpful and truly wanted this to be a learning, worthwhile experience for the interns. PNC invests so much in their interns and really allows us to see many areas and aspects of the bank throughout our 10 week long summer internship. It was very cool being in a city I had never been to before, while also having the opportunity to travel to HQs in Pittsburgh for orientation at the beginning of the 10 weeks and again at the end for our final presentation with our group.

What I wish was different

My experience was less hands-on assignments to work on but more of a mentorship and attending meetings and calls with the bankers-- I will say though that not all interns had this same experience. This opportunity was still truly valuable.

Advice

I suggest you try to learn as much about the different sectors of the bank as you can while you are interning there. The employees are very open to answering any questions you may have about different roles and areas of interest at PNC.
