sales associate

July 2019 • Audubon, PA

What I liked

A very fun experience that led to many entertaining and informative encounters.

What I wish was different

I personally wished that there was more consistency in how managers treated their part-timers. Practically all of my managers in the past have been pretty nice except for one and I just want to know how they got through whatever screening was done.

Advice

Be very aware of how the employees talk about their managers more notably the part-timers to have a better sense of what kind of environment you are getting yourself into.

Web Engineering Professional Apprentice

January 2020 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

The hands-on work, shadowing a full-time person on my team, the training opportunities

What I wish was different

Maybe the opportunity to get to shadow different teams and interview other people to help me in my career journey, and help me to choose a full-time position on a team.

Advice

Document every part. Whether it is the trainings, workshops you attended. Also, document any work you have done, the steps you took. Write down the struggles, rewarding moments and any awards that you received. Make sure to add any new skills acquired to your resume.

Sales and Management

June - September 2019 • Eugene, OR

What I liked

Good sales experience.

What I wish was different

It didn't feel like an internship. It was essentially just a retail job to get your foot in the door if you wanted to do the MTP program.

Advice

Dont do this if your major in finance, accounting OBA, marketing, etc. It offers no useful experience

Sales and management intern

May 2021 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

Learning how to navigate the software they use and making personal connections with clients and contractors that come in. Problem solving through a material shortage was helpful to clients during this time and challenging to figure out alternatives.

What I wish was different

It was not what I expected based on the position description and I would have liked more info prior to accepting, it was vague.

Advice

Great experience if you are looking for a sales associate position or to work for the company because there are lots of opportunities after the internship, thy tend to hire from within!

Management & Sales Intern

June - September 2021 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

The company atmosphere was great! I felt welcomed and supported throughout my entire internship and learned a lot of new skills.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to learn more about the management side of things rather than just the retail side of the business! I would have loved to learn more about their operations and how decisions are made.

Advice

Don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone! The best way to learn and to meet new people is by pushing yourself into new experiences every day. When you do this, your opportunities will always expand! There are always new people who are friendly and willing to help you learn, you just have to put yourself out there!

Sales and Management Intern

June - August 2022 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked the educational videos and lessons we received from our virtual training modules and while working in store. I learned a lot, more than I thought I would, about the paint industry and customer service. I really enjoyed the people that I worked with and the leadership management team that were in charge of us interns. The work was fun to learn and do and the foot traffic in the stores were not too busy so a good balance of learning and working.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was more corporate office based and explored more career paths than store management, up to district/higher management. Interns were mostly working in the retail stores for 4/5 days and went into the district office for the last day to work on our group project with the other interns.

Advice

Learn as much as you can and ask as many questions as you can. As well as meet as many people established in the company as you can and keep in touch, as Sherwin really emphasizes their family-like culture and constant internal promotions.
