Clinical Innovation Fellow

REPORTS TO:                 Chief Medical Officer

LOCATION:                      Washington, D.C.

COMPENSATION:        $28 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Innovation Fellow is responsible for supporting execution of ACHP’s grant-funded, implementation research projects and engaging ACHP’s member health plans in innovative approaches to population health challenges, including ACHP’s Chronic Disease Pledge. The role reports to ACHP’s Chief Medical Officer.

This position requires a detail-oriented and enthusiastic individual interested in generating results at the intersection of clinical evidence, clinical operations and health care financing. The role supports a range of grant-funded research activities in projects focused on chronic disease. To be successful, a candidate must be a self-starter, an excellent communicator and possess strong organizational skills. They should be dedicated to evidence-based decision-making, community-based approaches and financially sustainable solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to ACHP’s research activities by conducting literature reviews and background research, supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, engaging health plan executives in research activities and shared learning and drafting articles and public presentations.

POSITION OPPORTUNITY

This fellowship affords a recent graduate the opportunity for rapid learning and growth in innovations at the cutting edge of population health management in real world settings. Drawing on strong skills in population and public health, the Clinical Innovation Fellow will learn  from the perspective of a trade association about health plan clinical decision-making, health plan clinical operations, the managed health care market landscape and the intersection with federal policy. This fellowship will provide an excellent foundation for a successful career in population/community health, health care administration, health care financing or health care policy. Fellows will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Innovation team. This position requires a one-year commitment, and successful candidates will be strongly considered for possible full-time employment opportunities contingent on available funding. 

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Clinical Innovation Fellow supports the ACHP Clinical Innovation team in a variety of ways, executing funded projects through activities that distill important learning for the industry and highlighting the value delivered by ACHP member plans’ regional, non-profit, provider aligned model.  The fellow will support ACHP’s research portfolio through:

 

  • Management of one or more research project components from start-to-finish 
  • Participation in strategy and planning sessions with the Clinical Innovation Team
  • Development and delivery of innovative program content 
  • Collaboration across teams to support ACHP’s federal policy priorities  
  • Drafting journal articles, blog posts, presentations and other content for external communications
  • Monitoring and communicating progress using key metrics
  • Other duties as assigned and as interested

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, health economics, nursing, pre-med track, or similar area of study required; Graduate degree in mentioned areas a plus
  2. Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills and experience 
  3. Experience in a membership organization or on Capitol Hill a plus
  4. Minimum of 2 years of relevant health care or health services research experience
  5. Ability to manage and organize complex and detailed assignments
  6. Excellent judgment, quality assurance and critical thinking skills
  7. Confident and friendly customer-focused mindset
  8. Ability to drive collaborative teams to project milestone
  9. Strong written and oral communications skills
  10. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and Word), Zoom, LinkedIn; Tableau a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is in an office environment
  • Some travel required
  • Fellows are required to be in the office 3 days per week
