Job Summary

The Office of Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is seeking one (1) paid intern. The County Executive is the head of the executive branch of Milwaukee County’s government, leading the nearly 20 departments that provide critical services and infrastructure to its residents. Interns will primarily assist the administrative coordinator in constituent services, responding to constituent concerns in person at the front desk and via phone, email, Salesforce, and letters, as well as drafting and finalizing proclamations. They will also have the opportunity to draft other written deliverables like policy reports, social media posts, and communications materials, and monitor the day-to-day issues affecting Milwaukee County with the objective of increasing the intern’s knowledge of and exposure to the systems and function of local government. This internship exists in order to assist individuals in building the skills they need to be successful in their professional careers and to help foster a continued sense of public service within their communities.

 

Schedule: Interns will work less than twenty (20) hours per week.

Job Responsibilities

  • Constituent Services Support - Interns will assist in documenting, monitoring, and responding to constituent concerns in person and via phone, email, Salesforce, and letters. Further, interns will staff the front desk, as well as assist in compiling and communicating constituency reports during weekly staff meetings by tracking trends of the nature of constituent inquiries received within the County Executive’s office, as well as drafting and creating proclamations.
  • Written Communications - Aside from proclamations, interns will also assist in the creation of first drafts for various written documents, including social media content, press releases, appointment letters, congratulatory notes, thank you letters, and other written communications as assigned.
  • Administrative Tasks, Special Projects, and Events - Interns will assist on various special projects and administrative tasks in order to support an efficient workflow within the Office of the County Executive. These projects are assigned by various staff within the County Executive’s office, including those working in community outreach, communications, government affairs, and other fields, aside from the administrative coordinator. They could include, for example, data entry through spreadsheet creation and maintenance, record filing, updating CRM tools such as Salesforce, media archiving, and tracking of legislation. Depending on which term the interns work with the office, they will also be assigned roles in support of County Executive office events, such as the State of the County in spring, summer parades, and Budget Town Hall meetings in late summer.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experiences

  • Reliable transportation to work onsite and to offsite events required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required

 

Preferred Education and Experiences

  • Basic knowledge or previous use of CRM tools such as Salesforce preferred
  • Previous work experience or currently majoring in Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Urban Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or other related field preferred
