POLICE OFFICER-RECRUIT
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is within the Wayne Police Department. Police Recruits will attend the Police Academy full-time. Upon graduation from the Police Academy, recruits will transition to the Police Officer position.
ABOUT THE WAYNE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Wayne Police Department is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Police Recruit. Police Recruits will attend the Police Academy full-time before transitioning to the Police Officer position.
The Wayne Police Department is in southeast Michigan, just north of Detroit Metropolitan Airport. We are a six-square-mile city bordered by Westland, Canton, and Romulus.
The Wayne Police Department is a seven-day-a-week department, working 12-hour shifts. The 12-hour shift schedule provides officers with a three-day weekend every other weekend. The Wayne Police Department has multiple special units, including Detective Bureau, K9, Accident Investigation, Quick Response Team, School Resource Officer, and Drone Team.
The Wayne Police Department has a relaxed tattoo and facial hair policy. We allow external vest carriers. We have an on-site gym and gun range.
Pay for the Police Recruit Position is $20.10 / hour. Overtime pay is authorized during academy training. Health Care and sick leave benefits while attending the academy are included.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- U.S. Citizen
- Associate degree preferred
- 21 years of age of older
- Must be eligible for licensure with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
- Must take EMPCO test prior to hire
- Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and have no more than three points on driving record.
- Must maintain the State of Michigan-mandated firearms qualification
- No Domestic Violence Convictions or Felony Convictions
- Prior to the date of hire, selected candidates will undergo and must successfully pass a drug test, physical, psychological exam, and a thorough background investigation.
