About the Internship

Building on our strong track record of hosting excellent students from premier institutions like Williams College and the Boston University School of Public Health, Pro-Passion Projects invites undergraduates and recent graduates to apply for our hands-on Fall/Winter Medical & Public Health Internship in Accra, Ghana. Following a series of highly successful cohorts featuring dedicated interns from these universities, this program offers a structured opportunity during the academic year to gain deep clinical and community health exposure.

Working alongside seasoned healthcare professionals at the La Municipal Health Directorate and La Polyclinic, interns will study healthcare delivery in a global context, focusing on primary care, preventive medicine, and resource-optimized public health interventions. This internship is tailored for students pursuing careers or studies in medicine (Pre-Med tracks), nursing, public health, global health, biology, anthropology, health policy, and related disciplines.

Internship Responsibilities

Interns operate under the direct guidance of qualified local medical and public health personnel. Key responsibilities include:

Hospital Observations:

Observe healthcare practitioners as they diagnose, treat, and manage patients at La Polyclinic.

Assist with basic clinical tasks under direct professional supervision.

Gain deep exposure to healthcare delivery and professional clinical workflows in a resource-optimized environment.

Community Outreach & Public Health:

Participate in regional community outreach programs twice weekly.

Engage in supervised, hands-on clinical field activities: dressing wounds, checking BMI, measuring blood pressure, and conducting malaria rapid testing.

Assist with patient care administration, fieldwork tracking, and medical record organization for public health databases.

Health Education Workshops:

Plan and implement community health education workshops.

Collaborate closely with local health workers to address area-specific concerns, including maternal health, disease prevention, and primary hygiene.

Our past cohorts have included exceptional students from Williams College and graduate/undergraduate scholars from the Boston University School of Public Health.

Interns receive structured, daily on-site supervision from experienced doctors, nurses, and public health administrators at the La Municipal Health Directorate and La Polyclinic. Complementing your clinical guidance, the Pro-Passion Projects leadership team provides a comprehensive structural framework, including a thorough arrival orientation, safe local transport configurations, secure housing logistics, and regular pastoral check-ins. This multi-layered support ensures all participants receive actionable professional feedback, dedicated mentorship, and an educational, safe experience.

Learning Outcomes

By the conclusion of the program, interns will:

Acquire practical, resume-building skills in clinical care and community public health interventions.

Gain clear, firsthand exposure to preventive medicine challenges and structural global health delivery.

Strengthen intercultural communication, adaptability, and professional teamwork skills.

Earn an official Certificate of Completion and a professional Reference Letter documenting hours, duties, and skill development.

Accommodation and Cultural Experience

Participants stay with carefully selected, welcoming local host families in Accra, providing an immersive, safe, and authentic cultural environment.

Accommodation includes:

Private or shared room with three daily meals provided (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Organized cultural activities, including local language lessons, African drumming, dance, and traditional cooking classes.

Guided city tours and cultural excursions, including trips to Cape Coast Castle, the National Museum, and the Arts Center.

Program Fee: USD $1,600 (For a 4-week internship)

Fee Includes: Internship placement and facility coordination, professional hospital/outreach supervision, host family accommodations, three meals per day, airport pickup/arrival support, continuous local program coordination, and 24/7 on-ground emergency support.

Not Included: International flights, entry visa fees, travel insurance, personal expenses, or independent weekend excursions.

Eligibility & Requirements

Open to currently enrolled undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates.

Academic background or a documented, strong interest in health-related disciplines.

Minimum age of 18 by the start of the program.

Valid passport, committed adherence to a 4-week term, and up-to-date vaccinations (including Yellow Fever).
