The Institute of World Politics (IWP), a premier graduate school specializing in national security, intelligence, and international affairs, invites applications for the position of Social Media Intern. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital strategy, content development, and institutional communications within a professional academic setting. Interns will play a vital role in shaping IWP’s public presence by helping convey its mission, programs, and events to a broader audience through strategic media outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, schedule, and publish content for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X.
- Develop graphics, videos, and other visual assets for campaigns and announcements.
- Monitor engagement, track analytics, and suggest strategies to grow audience reach.
- Write articles, event recaps, and intern/student features.
- Live-cover events and maintain media archives.
- Support newsletters, email campaigns, and internal communications.
- Contribute to content calendars and draft press releases.
Qualifications
- Upper-level undergraduate or recent graduate in communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, international affairs, or related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer), graphic design platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and basic video editing.
- Creativity, professionalism, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of national security or international affairs preferred but not required.
- Ability to commute to IWP’s Washington, D.C. campus.
- Availability: 20–25 hours/week during fall and spring, up to 40 hours/week in summer.

- Preferred Admission: Upon successful completion of the research internship, gain access to preferential consideration for IWP’s master's degrees.
- Educational Credits: Eligible to receive $3000 per semester intern scholarship, which can be applied directly toward tuition for the MA degree program.
