Golden Grizzlies Band Assistant Director

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Music. Instrumental Music Education preferred.
  • Experience conducting and rehearsing a large ensemble.
  • Performance experience on an applied instrument found in the ensemble.

Duties include:

  • Conduct, rehearse, and lead the Golden Grizzlies Band at each event in which the ensemble is participating. This includes, but is not limited to: Rehearsals, Men’s & Women’s Home Basketball Games, Playoff and Tournament Games (on campus and out-of-state), University Events, Concerts, New Student Welcome/Convocation.
  • Must be able to work and communicate through Google Drive and various Google Docs.
  • Communicating and working with the Director to accomplish weekly tasks. This includes a weekly meeting to discuss upcoming tasks and events.
  • When called upon, communicate the information for each event via text message, email, and phone call. This typically requires an email blast to participating members for each event and text message communication to fill out personnel needs for desired instrumentation.
  • Work with the Athletic Department at each event to determine song and script order. Communicate this to the band prior to the start of the event. 
  • When needed as determined by the Director, perform with the Golden Grizzlies Band. 
  • Oversee each of the other Golden Grizzlies Band Managers with all equipment set-up and movement for the ensemble. This includes arriving early and staying after each event to help facilitate any equipment needs and set-up. Ensure the instruments and equipment are functional and everyone has an instrument to play. This also includes making sure attendance and library (music) needs are accurate and being completed.
  • Help to maintain the instrument inventory on a Google Drive when assigned.
  • Work with the managers to identify and report damaged equipment needed for repair and train band members on proper care and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Help facilitate and be present at the clean, flush, grease, and oil of all instruments at the end of the season.
  • Help facilitate loading and unloading of equipment trucks and other major equipment moves (i.e. - tournament and off-site games). This includes recruiting extra people to help with any equipment moves.
  • Be able to answer any ensemble-related questions from the band and faculty members.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Golden Grizzlies Band.
