JOB TITLE: PUB Academic Mentor
DURATION: 7 months: mid-September to mid-April/May
PAY RATE: $15.00/hr.
HOURS: Varies, Generally Mon-Thurs, 1:45-6:00p.m and/or 1-2 Saturdays/mo, Oct-May, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with possible morning hours at select locations
REPORTS TO: Saturdays –Academic Coordinator and Weekdays - College Club Supervisor
POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Varies
SUBJECTS: High school math, science, & English
PURPOSE: Assist high school participants in the PUB Academy to improve their high school academic performance and standardized test performance. Sessions are held at the high schools with some virtual options. Transportation is provided.
PRIMARY DUTIES
• Be present for each College Club (after-school enrichment programming) and Saturday Academy session.
• Be assertive in initiating academic assistance contacts.
• Assist students to master concepts, theories, and mechanics of subject areas.
• Assist students with completing their homework assignments.
• Assist students with mastering SAT content and strategies and high school course content.
• Record attendance & track time accurately (when asked to do so).
• Assist with acquisition, preparation, and distribution of materials or managing virtual session.
• Assist with standardized test proctoring, scoring, and grade recording.
• Escort students between classrooms within the building as necessary.
• Assist with distributing food.
• Other duties as assigned by the College Success Coach or Academic Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Good Academic standing and an appropriate level of maturity.
• 3.00 GPA in subject that you wish to tutor; 2.50 overall.
• Clear pronunciation/enunciation and good command of the English language.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Windows, Internet).
• Light clerical skills.
• Previous work experience with educationally at-risk and ethnically diverse high school students is a plus.
• Commitment to helping PUB scholars prepare for college.
• Participation in training.
• Experience on virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Meet, etc)
HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECT AREAS NEEDED - SKILLS COMBINATIONS ARE A PLUS:
• Mathematics—Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry
• English—Grammar, Vocabulary, Composition, Literature, Reading, Writing
• Science – Biology, Chemistry, perhaps Physics
• Regular and Honors Curriculum Tracks
