YouTube Thumbnail Designer

The Mista Pat Project is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to inspiring young children to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). We are creating an educational YouTube show for school aged children that highlights the latest in innovation and the amazing people and companies behind it. 

A YouTube thumbnail designer involves designing eye-catching thumbnails to attract viewers and increase click-through rates for online video content. A thumbnail designer uses graphic design software and knowledge of marketing to create compelling visuals that accurately represent the content, working with teams to align designs with video content and branding goals. Key skills include graphic design, creativity, marketing awareness, attention to detail, and effective communication to manage projects and meet deadlines.

  • The Internship is 10 weeks long
  • 10-15 works hours a week
  • The organization is willing to work with a student to receive academic credit

Key Responsibilities

  • Visual Design: Create custom, visually engaging thumbnails using graphic design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva.
  • Brand Alignment: Ensure designs align with the channel's overall brand identity and content strategy. 
  • Audience Engagement: Craft thumbnails that accurately represent video content, grab attention, and encourage clicks.
  • Collaboration: Work with video production and marketing teams to understand content, share ideas, and implement feedback.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor thumbnail performance and click-through rate (CTR) metrics to improve design strategies

Required Skills and Qualities

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and tools like Canva
  • Creativity: The ability to develop unique and recognizable visual elements that stand out.
  • Marketing Awareness: Understanding audience psychology and how to use visuals to drive engagement and clicks.
  • Communication Skills: Clearly communicate design concepts, provide updates, and implement feedback from team members.
  • Time Management: Manage multiple design projects, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in a timely manner. 
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure all visual elements are balanced, readable, and complement the content.
