Job Summary:
The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (ECSE) plans, implements and assesses a program of instruction that adheres to the district’s mission, philosophy, and objectives, while meeting the specific needs of the students they service to maximize their learning potential
Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.
Essential Functions:
1. Comply with all Michigan Special Education law/requirements.
2. Provide special education services as indicated on the Individual Educational Plan.
3. Collect record, and report data relative to student performance on individual goals and objectives.
4. Conduct required formal and informal evaluation to measure students’ progress.
5. Collaborate in the development of Evaluation/Review Plans.
6. Active participant in the CIMS process, including implementing any required corrective actions.
7. Comply with state and district policy on the use of seclusion and restraint.
8. Participate in transition planning.
9. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
10. Participate in building Student Assistance Teams.
11. Participate in ECD Program meetings.
12. Participate in Early Childhood professional development training.
13. Complete Medicaid documentation, monthly.
14. Utilize a variety of research-based intervention strategies, continually assessing student response to intervention and make modification as needed to ensure all children are successful.
15. Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans.
16. Work collaboratively with school initiatives that support intervention strategies for student success.
17. Conference with parents, therapists, and other medical/agency personnel
18. Establish communication systems between teacher, parents, and support staff.
19. Develop lesson plans which reflect individual student goals.
20. Evaluate and order instructional materials needed to provide quality programming pertaining to educating special education students.
21. Work cooperatively with Community agencies involved with students and families.
22. Advocate for students and their parents.
23. Provide modeling to parents to extend activities into daily routine
Qualifications:
Education: Valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate with a ZS endorsement, Or Valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate with a ZA endorsement plus an endorsement in at least one area of special education.
