Bilingual Paraprofessional

Job Summary: 

The Bilingual Paraprofessional provides assistance to English Language Learner (ELL) students under the guidance of certified teachers, in an array of classroom settings. 

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  1. Assists students by providing instructional bilingual support to English Language Learners under the guidance/supervision of a Title III Intervention Teacher. 
  2. Provides instructional bilingual support to students individually and/or in small groups as determined by the teacher with the objective of improving the student’s English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing. 
  3. Assists students with the goal of improving their academic achievement in core subjects such as reading and mathematics as measured by standardized assessments.

Qualifications:

Education – Must meet one of the following requirements: 

  • Earned at least 60 semester hours of college credit; or
  • Obtained an associate’s degree (or higher); or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrated, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
    • Knowledge of, and ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
    • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
