Environmental Services Intern
General Summary
The Environmental Services Intern will work across multiple departments to gain hands-on experience and an understanding of ASTI Environmental’s, a division of PEA Group, service offerings. Time as an intern will be divided between office and field tasks, including environmental work, compliance documentation, and data analysis. The intern may also assist with report preparation and contribute to environmental site assessments if proficiency is demonstrated.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with environmental site assessments, including data collection, soil, groundwater, and air sampling and/or ecological assessments, including wetland delineation, tree surveys, and threatened and endangered species surveys.
- Supports compliance projects by conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports.
- Participates in environmental monitoring and remediation activities.
- Assists in preparing documentation related to environmental regulations and permitting.
- Provides support to technical staff by compiling and analyzing environmental data.
- Trains in relevant software applications and PEA Group standards.
- Adheres to safety protocols and procedures established by PEA Group.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Formal Education, Licenses and Certifications
- High School Diploma required.
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited environmental science, environmental engineering, geology, hydrogeology, biology, ecology or related degree program.
- Must possess a valid driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Knowledge and Experience
- Basic knowledge of environmental science principles, regulations, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in typical computer software programs (Microsoft Office, etc.).

- Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Strong written and oral communication skills preferred.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow direction.
- Willingness to learn and apply environmental regulations and compliance practices.
- Ability to operate computers, prepare reports, and analyze data.
Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office and in outdoor field conditions. Fieldwork may involve site visits, sampling activities, and inspections at various land use developments, construction sites, public works facilities, and vacant properties such as open fields, wooded lots, wetlands, and previously developed sites. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate field equipment, computers, and other office devices.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate equipment, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally need to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. The employee may encounter rough terrain.
Availability
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel
Travel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day. Occasionally, travel may be required to job sites in other states and would require overnight stay.
