We are actively seeking an Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications to join our Department of Technology. Our Technology department serves over 14,000 students and nearly 3,000 employees across the Division. The Assistant Director of Enterprise Applications provides strategic oversight and leadership of school division data systems to ensure data automation, availability, accuracy, security, and effective use. This role serves as the technical lead for the Student Information System (SIS) and other educational data platforms, ensuring seamless integration across systems and compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements. The position plays a critical role in supporting data-informed decision-making, promoting data literacy, ensuring data security, and advancing the division’s strategic goals.

Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as a technical expert and systems owner for the division’s Student Information System (SIS), including related server maintenance and operations and the Parent Portal;
- Manages and supports data systems that integrate with the SIS and other enterprise educational platforms;
- Leads processes for data integration and transfer to meet reporting and interoperability requirements;
- Oversees the management, configuration, and strategic use of key enterprise-level applications, including the division’s assessment system, learning management system, mass communication system, visitor management system, external and internal web platforms, and custom-built, ACPS developed programs including our staffing database;
- Directs and coordinates state reporting processes, ensuring accurate data collection, validation, and submission to meet all Virginia Department of Education and federal government compliance requirements and deadlines;
- Designs, implements, and manages automated data workflows and processes to improve data accuracy, reduce manual effort, and ensure timely access to critical information;
- Partners with the Department of Human Resources and Albemarle County Government to support and manage systems related to employee records, leave management and payroll, ensuring data accuracy, system reliability, and timely issue resolution;
- Collaborates with division and school leaders to develop and execute strategies for data access, visualization, and use in educational decision-making;
- Provides training, documentation, and support to ensure effective use of enterprise applications by teachers, administrators, support staff, and families;
- Maintains system documentation, user guides, and technical manuals to support consistency and sustainability of practices in different modalities to ensure access and readability;
- Troubleshoots complex software, hardware, and network issues related to enterprise applications;
- Evaluates and implements new technology solutions that support data integrity, data security, performance, and the user experience;
- Delivers targeted, scalable support and training to users at the individual, department, and school levels;
- Leads, coaches, and guides a cross-functional Enterprise Technology team;
- Develops and builds teamwork to maintaining highly engaged staff;
- Monitors enterprise-level system life cycles and remains current on state and local procurement guidelines and uses this information to effectively manage system replacement processes and the procurement of new systems;
- Develops professional partnerships with vendors and leverages those partnerships to the benefit of ACPS, performances of systems and staff experience with those systems;
- Performs various other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Deep expertise in relational database systems, data warehousing, and data integration; Ability to apply strategic planning and project management to all facets of the work; Proficiency in SQL and database design, optimization, and maintenance; Strong understanding of enterprise level systems including student information systems, how they integrate with each other, and how to send and extract data from them in order to meet K-12 data reporting requirements; Knowledge of system security practices, data governance, and compliance.
Ability to develop and implement processes for managing data across complex environments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work across functional teams and with stakeholders at all levels; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage changing priorities; Ability to lead and support change management initiatives and effectively plan professional learning experiences for staff around using enterprise systems.
Education and Experience:
Combination of education and experience to a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and a demonstrated 5 years of experience managing enterprise applications in a K-12 or similarly complex organization is required. Demonstrated 3 years of relevant leadership experience. Relevant certifications such as A+, MCITP, MCDBA, or other enterprise-level IT certifications are strongly preferred. Valid Virginia driver’s license required.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:
Work is primarily performed in office, classroom, and conference room environments. Regular use of computers, servers, and related technology equipment. Occasional physical demands including lifting equipment up to 50 pounds. Occasional travel to schools and other sites across the division. May require evening or weekend hours to meet critical deadlines or respond to system issues. Must be able to work in environments without heating or air conditioning when necessary. Occasional exposure to and handling of electrical and electronic equipment.
