Status: Intern

Hourly Range: $19.60 - $25.50

*Hourly rate commensurate with education and experience.

 

Job Summary

As a Human Resources Generalist Intern at BPMI, you will perform routine business functions to support company operations in areas including, but not limited to: recruitment and employment, employee and labor relations, compensation management, benefits administration, organizational development and training, Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Programs, and special projects. Participate in the development, implementation, and communication of Human Resources policies and procedures. Partner with business operations to meet organizational needs and objectives.

This opportunity will begin Summer 2026, working a full-time schedule (40 hours/week).  Please note, this is not a remote position. You will be expected to come into the office for this opportunity.

Our internship will give you the opportunity to work in your field of study while simultaneously pursuing your bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. These opportunities can enhance your academic training while teaching critical business skills and allowing you to learn about BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Apply HR policies in a uniform and equitable manner. Assist in the maintenance of policies in assigned areas.
  • Assist in the completion of audits to identify issues and/or inconsistencies. Participate in the resolution of those issues identified.
  • Assist in the maintenance of HR records and systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of statistical studies and reports as required by legislation or organization needs. Analyze routine data.
  • Assist in the processing of various applications, employment, enrollment, pay change, informational and other confidential forms and records. Review for conformance to policy and procedure.
  • Coordinate awareness and apply knowledge of trends, best practices, and legal developments in HR.
  • Counsel with and advise employees on basic HR policies and procedures. Investigate routine grievances and provide recommendations for review by appropriate HR staff.
  • Develop an understanding of organizational business needs and objectives within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Represent Company at various events which may include career fairs, conferences, arbitration hearings, etc.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Management/Administration or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (~60 credits).
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
     

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications desired.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Detail oriented self-starter.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong teaming skills working with all levels of management, engineers, procurement professionals, supply chain professionals, onsite and remote Navy personnel.
