Commissioning Engineering Intern (Available June 2026)
The Opportunity
Develop strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work
Develop commissioning documentation under the guidance of the Lead Commissioning Engineer
Develop an understanding of commissioning best practices like ASHRAE, BCxA, AEE, NFPA etc.
Assisting the Lead Commissioning Engineer in developing and implementing testing procedures during the acceptance phase of construction
Analyze system performance using historical data, site measurements, and trending
Develop spreadsheets for analyses, perform field assessments and on-site commissioning activities
Deploy metering/monitoring devices for assessment of systems
Develop presentations to translate analysis findings, or specific stages of the commissioning process.
Shadow/learn different internal design disciplines to understand the design process from the innovative eyes of Arup designers, planners, and engineers.
Develop an understanding of high-performance design, test & balance, control strategy optimization, energy efficient equipment design, and life cycle costing
Develop an understanding of mechanical, electrical, lighting, plumbing, facades, fire/life safety, building controls systems, information, technology, and communications systems (ITC).
Work with the lead Commissioning engineer to learn client control systems, identify system shortfalls, and analyze for alternatives
Prepare summaries of work for clients, attend client meetings, and assist with proposal development
Cost & benefit analysis of improvement measures over a project life cycle
Working with Lead Commissioning Engineer to optimize control strategies for MEP systems
Develop an understanding of commissioning tasks associated with LEED, AEGB & WELL projects
Develop an understanding of ASHRAE energy audits
Develop understanding of project documentation such as scope of work, specifications, submittals, design drawings, RFI's, O&M's, and systems manuals.

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree – Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Science and/ or related technical fields
Effective communication skills
Outstanding analytical problem-solving skills
Must have a passion to learn, and enjoy collaborating with a team
Desire to work at desk and in field
Understanding of energy, building envelope systems, and water system technologies
Excellent organizational and computer skills
Familiarity with triple bottom line cost-effectiveness analysis
Working towards Commissioning or related credentials a plus
Knowledge of building automation systems a plus
Experience with Controls, and Test & Balance of building systems a plus
Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
