Data Annotation, Cleaning & Mining Intern
About Us
We are a team of ex-ByteDance, ex-GM, ex-KPMG, and successful serial entrepreneurs recognized by Forbes and Times. We have raised millions of dollars for previous startups. We’re building the Scale AI for Pets—expert-verified annotations, standardized datasets, and APIs that power pet behavior & health AI. Long-term: the world’s largest Pet LLM spanning behavior, health, language, and diet. This internship owns the end-to-end data pipeline: turn messy, real-world pet media into high-quality, versioned training assets with measurable model lift.
The Role
We’re looking for a UX Research Intern to help us continuously track and understand our users. You’ll conduct interviews, run surveys, and analyze user behavior data to uncover insights that improve our app experience.
What You’ll Do
You will label, clean, and mine pet video/audio data to produce reproducible datasets:
- Annotate 8–12s clips with behavior classes (eat, drink, sleep, play, scratch, groom, pacing, human-interaction), draw boxes/masks, and pose keypoints (ears/tail/limbs) per our vet/behaviorist-backed ontology.
- Build lightweight cleaning scripts to filter blur/occlusion/low-light/low-SNR media, slice videos, and align audio–video timestamps.
- Mine long-tail & hard cases (night vision, multi-pet, occlusion; vomiting/limping/over-licking), balance by breed/scene/lighting/device, and assemble train/val/test splits.
- Keep tidy metadata (Parquet/CSV), version datasets (v1.0, v1.1…), write SOPs, and ship measurable model improvements on a frozen baseline.
What We’re Looking For
- Bias to quality & detail. You follow written criteria precisely, catch edge cases, and ask crisp clarifying questions.
- Hands-on with data. You’re comfortable scripting, running CLI tools, reading logs, and iterating fast on small experiments.
- Structured & organized. You document steps, name files sanely, version outputs, and keep metadata clean.
- Clear communicator. You can explain what you did, why you did it, and how to reproduce it—succinctly.
- Fast learner. You can pick up FFmpeg/OpenCV/Label Studio quickly and adapt to feedback.
- Ownership mindset. You like turning ambiguous tasks into shipped, measurable outcomes.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with pets/animal behavior, dataset tools (FiftyOne), audio basics (librosa), or vector search (FAISS).
Perks
- Flexible hours and remote-friendly work.
- Hands-on experience with a fast-growing business environment.
- Opportunity to own research projects and see your insights implemented in real-time.
- Potential for extended role after internship.
