Cold Rolling Engineer Co-Op
North American Stainless is seeking a Cold Rolling Engineer Co-Op for the ZMills department. This co-op role is designed for a student majoring in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. The position will focus on improving mill efficiency and maintenance through daily tasks and a special project.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and catalog mill stock parts to improve efficiency during roll changes. This is a key project for the ZMills team.
- Create and maintain a daily OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) report, analyzing factors like performance, material, availability, and quality to understand daily scores.
- Update Standard Work Instructions (SWI) with a trainer.
- Complete a special assignment or project either monthly or by the end of the co-op term.
Special Projects
The co-op will be assigned specific projects to contribute to the operational team, including:
- Gathering data from the roll shop to accurately determine the life expectancy of rolls.
- Performing hardness tests on new versus used rolls.
- Organizing drawings and stock items for CRM #7.
- Conducting a time study on the roll grinder.
- Developing a better roll management tracking system.
- Developing and reviewing Standard Work Instructions (SWI) with a trainer.
Requirements
- Currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- Prior experience is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is mandatory; knowledge of SQL is a plus.
- Must be able to read 2D CAD prints.
- Students will be required to submit monthly reports detailing daily tasks and progress on their special project.
This co-op position is a paid opportunity for the summer of 2026. Student will be able to co-op a maximum of 40 hours a week.
