As a Data Scientist Intern, you will join a team of data scientists, AI researchers, software developers, and psychometricians who provide technical and scientific leadership for some of our most important strategic efforts companywide.

 

Why This Role Is Exciting:
You will help this team deliver cutting-edge data science and/or Artificial Intelligence (DS/AI) solutions, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions like Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience to help McGraw Hill create and deliver world-class educational experiences.

 

This is a 10-week summer internship from June 8th – August 21st and is a remote internship. Candidates need to currently be pursuing a degree within the United States.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Execute and report on DS/AI projects. Perform research, analysis, and modeling, and present findings to key stakeholders on a project by the end of the internship. 
  • Learn how to address problems in edtech by adopting or modifying common DS/AI practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the creation of compelling learning experiences.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Enrolled in a Ph.D. or Master’s degree program in AI, Data Science, Psychometrics, or related field with an emphasis on quantitative analysis or computational modeling.
  • Knowledge in Python, R, and/or SQL.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic about solving problems in education. 
  • Excellent communication skills and excited to learn in a highly collaborative environment. 
  • It is helpful to meet one or more of the following qualifications, but it is not a requirement.
    • Exposure to large language models (LLM) principles 
    • Exposure to Bayesian modeling or computational psychometrics
    • Exposure to recommendation systems
    • Exposure to experimental design principles

The pay range for this position is between $25-$30/hour, however, pay offered may vary depending on degree pursuing, knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
