Basic Job Functions:

The Mechanical Engineering intern will work closely with a mechanical engineering mentor as well as with electrical engineers, maintenance, and production teammates to execute continuous improvement projects on-site. The responsibilities as a mechanical engineering intern will vary day to day as the position is involved in many different aspects of engineering.

The responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Nucor include, but are not limited to: 

  • Design and implementation of new systems and modification of existing equipment
  • Improve production and maintenance processes, keeping accurate documentation for all improvements in the area of responsibility.
  • Provide technical expertise with regard to mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Failure analysis/troubleshooting
  •  Work in cooperation with other departments or teams

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Seeking a 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace and ISE will be considered)
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Finite Element Analysis (Nastran/Patran or similar)
  • Experience with SolidWorks, 20/30 CAD, and/or other equivalent modeling software.
