As a Public Health Nurse II, you’ll play a vital role in preventing disease, promoting wellness, and delivering essential nursing services in both clinical and community settings.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver direct clinical and consultative public health nursing services to individuals, families, and groups.
- Provide health education, immunizations, and screenings to promote early detection and disease prevention.
- Conduct epidemiological investigations and provide testing, diagnosis, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections under Medical Standing Orders.
- Offer HIV counseling and testing, and provide education on nutrition, family planning, growth and development, and chronic disease management.
- Assess and evaluate client needs, developing care plans and making referrals as appropriate.
- Deliver nursing services in diverse environments including homes, schools, community centers, senior facilities, and public health clinics.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, client-focused care.
- Maintain accurate documentation using Countywide and department-specific software systems.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
1. Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Michigan.
NOTE: A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred.
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
2. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.
3. Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.
NOTE: Applicants who are eligible to be licensed by the State of Michigan and who meet the other requirements listed above may take this examination but will not be eligible for appointment until they have been licensed by or possess a valid permit from the Michigan Board of Nursing
Qualifications
1. Submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
2. Maintain current registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing.
