Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Essential Functions:
The RENK America Intern will have a summer (approx 3 months) of assignments in Manufacturing Engineering related to manufacturing engines and transmissions for military ground vehicles. Assignments will involve the following:
- Continuous Improvement projects on the production floor: Safety/Ergonomic improvements, tooling or holder improvements, cycle time improvements, may be working in machining or assembly of Engines and Transmissions.
- Manufacturing Engineering process book updates for machining and assembly. Would involve following the assembly or machining process on the production floor then creating a process book with photos based on observed process flow.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Candidate enrolled in 4 year degree program at an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering with a 3.0 GPA or above.
- Must be able to move freely, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout a manufacturing environment.
- Must be familiar with, and able to utilize all Microsoft Office Applications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Must be able to read machining and assembly prints and correlate them with the Bill of Material and processes.
- Must have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing techniques.
- Must understand metric measurements and tooling.
- Desire to work in a CNC machine shop.
- Desire to learn about Engine and Transmission design, manufacturing, and testing.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Basic knowledge of engines and transmissions.
- Ability to perform mechanical structural calculations.
- Background in machining processes, tooling, equipment, and CNC technology.
- CNC programming experience in Mastercam, M & G Codes.
- Understanding of Lean, Six Sigma and SPC methods.
- An understanding of working with CAD models and programs in Pro E and Auto CAD.
- Project Management experience, have used MS Project in the past and have developed Statement of Work, Work Breakdown Structure, and Schedules.
