SPRING INTERN - Information Technology

The City of Douglasville is now accepting applications for our Spring Internship Program!  

This learning experience affords the students a view of the inner workings of city government. Each intern will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of study. Each intern must be open to new ideas and suggestions, and be committed to completing the internship in its entirety. Interns also have the opportunity to participate in some special activities depending on the department assigned.

Internship Opportunity:

Selected students will participate in a meaningful and challenging 20-week spring internship that will allow each intern to have exposure to different facets of local government, and receive critical skills, and career and personal development training. Interns will work on a wide variety of tasks and projects within a cross-functional team of professionals and get exposure to leaders within the organization.  Please feel free to apply to no more than TWO (2) internships. 

Typically, 40 hours per week; The rate of pay will be paid at $20 per hour.

Internship Focus:

IT Helpdesk Tasks and City Hall Equipment and employee relocations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with IT Helpdesk tasks, including troubleshooting hardware/software issues, responding to user requests, and documenting support activities.
  • Support Cybersecurity initiatives by monitoring systems for potential threats, maintaining security protocols, and assisting with awareness efforts.
  • Contribute to Cloud Applications tasks, such as user account management, permissions, and troubleshooting within cloud-based platforms.
  • Perform general IT tasks, including system updates, inventory management, and other technical projects as assigned.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop IT professional skills by practicing communication, time management, and teamwork in a technical environment.
  • Apply cybersecurity skills through exposure to security protocols, monitoring tools, and best practices for protecting organizational data.
  • Demonstrate helpdesk and troubleshooting skills by resolving hardware, software, and user support requests.
  • Utilize cloud application skills by managing accounts, permissions, and functionality within common cloud-based platforms.

 Eligibility Requirements:   

  • United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States  
  • Current enrollment in a college, university, or technical school (Junior, Senior, or Grad Student)
  • Current grade point average of 3.0 or better   

Preferred Skills:

General IT and Helpdesk experience
