About the Role

 

Join Alcon’s Global Manufacturing Operations team as a Production Scheduler Intern, where you’ll support the planning and procurement functions that ensure timely production of Alcon’s vision care products. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn how material requirements, supplier coordination, and production schedules come together to drive operational excellence in a regulated manufacturing environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in defining material requirements that support the production schedule.
  • Analyze and act on MRP (Material Requirements Planning) suggested actions to ensure continuous material availability while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Support improvements in buying and planning processes, including supplier Kanban systems and just-in-time deliveries.
  • Help optimize procurement activities to balance inventory costs and production needs.
  • Contribute to cost-saving initiatives such as blanket purchase orders and long-term supplier agreements.
  • Participate in the disposition of defective, excess, or obsolete materials.
  • Monitor raw material deliveries to help prevent production downtime.
  • Ensure accuracy of manufacturing system data to support compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, QA, and Planning to stay aligned with schedule changes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement (CIP) initiatives to enhance value and performance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship or co-op, and at least one additional semester following internship or co-op.
  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business with a Supply Chain Track or General Business.
  • Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0/4.0.
  • Familiarity with Excel and ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated).
  • Ability to commit to a full-time (40 hrs/week) internship position.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with data analysis, inventory planning, or production scheduling.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Interest in manufacturing operations and supply chain optimization.
  • Exposure to regulated environments or medical device industries is a plus.
