Materials Science Graduate Intern
🔬 Join Idaho National Laboratory’s Materials Science Team!
Are you passionate about understanding how materials behave at the microscopic level? INL is seeking a graduate student or recent university graduate to join our team in Idaho Falls, ID, starting January 2026, to study the microstructure and mechanical properties of materials.
In this hands-on role, you’ll conduct microstructure characterization using tools like scanning electron microscopy (SEM), perform tensile and stress testing, and contribute to technical reports and journal publications. You’ll work alongside leading researchers exploring microstructural evolution, corrosion, and grain boundary behavior.
We’re looking for candidates with coursework or experience in Materials Science and Engineering, and skills in Matlab, Python, microscopy equipment (SEM, TEM, FTIR, X-ray), AutoCAD, or SolidWorks are a plus.

🕘 9x80 schedule (every other Friday off)
