About the Opportunity

We're seeking a psychology or education student to establish the research foundation for a professional development course focused on supporting multilingual learners. You'll explore the psychological dimensions of language acquisition, cultural identity, and belonging, helping teachers understand the cognitive and emotional experiences of their diverse students.

Your Role

As our Analyst, you'll research the psychological foundations that will make our course evidence-based and impactful:

  • Psychological Research: Investigate the psychology of translanguaging and bilingual cognitive development; research cultural identity formation in immigrant children and adolescents; explore the impact of teacher expectations and implicit bias on multilingual student outcomes
  • Social-Emotional Learning: Research trauma-informed approaches for immigrant and refugee students; study belonging, identity, and self-concept in culturally diverse classrooms
  • Family Systems: Explore the psychology of family engagement across different cultural contexts; research parent-child language dynamics in immigrant families
  • Literature Review: Conduct systematic reviews of research on multilingual learners' cognitive, social, and emotional development; identify evidence-based practices for supporting these students
  • Expert Interview Support: Help develop interview questions for educational psychologists and researchers; assist in analyzing interview content for psychological themes
  • Content Translation: Help translate psychological research and theory into practical, teacher-facing modules that explain why certain approaches work
  • Assessment Design: Support development of course assessments (reflection prompts, case study analyses) that measure teachers' understanding of psychological principles

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student in psychology, educational psychology, school psychology, education, or related field
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with academic databases (PsycINFO, ERIC, etc.)
  • Interest in bilingualism, immigration, cultural psychology, or educational equity
  • Ability to read and synthesize research literature
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with research methods is a plus
  • Interest in applied psychology and real-world educational impact

Internship Details

This is an unpaid educational internship designed primarily for student learning and skill development. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue academic credit through their institution. The internship complies with FLSA guidelines: it does not displace paid employees, provides educational training similar to an academic environment, and carries no guarantee of future paid employment. Future paid opportunities depend solely on securing grant funding and/or successful contracts.
