Industrial Engineering Intern

Summary of Position

Niles Plant Services is seeking a proactive and analytical Industrial Engineering Intern to support continuous improvement initiatives across multiple functional areas including Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Purchasing. This internship offers hands-on experience in identifying inefficiencies, streamlining workflows, and driving measurable improvements in productivity, cost, and quality throughout the plant.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 


 

  • Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Purchasing teams to identify and scope improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct time studies, process mapping, and data analysis to uncover inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Support Lean initiatives such as 5S, visual management, and standard work across departments.
  • Assist in developing and implementing process enhancements that reduce waste and improve throughput.
  • Document current and future state workflows using tools like Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Track and report on project metrics including cost savings, lead time reduction, and quality improvements.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute to team-based problem-solving sessions.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for leadership on findings and recommendations.


 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or Operational Excellence principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is a plus.
