Who We Are:
The SwRI Library supports the information needs of the Southwest Research Institute staff. As a department in the Information Technology Center, the SwRI Library focuses on innovative systems, seamless discovery and access to scholarly resources that reflect the dynamic research of the institute.
Objectives of this Role:
- Support library digitization projects through the analysis of materials, creation of digital items, metadata, and storage structure for internal and external digital collections.
- Build and apply digital design and research expertise to develop and maintain dynamic information guides and virtual library exhibits.
- Enhance experience in research and data analysis, scholarly communication, and outreach by collaborating with library staff to produce data-informed content that demonstrates the impact of institutional scholarship.
- Provide local graduate students opportunities for entry-level library experience.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Systems and Special Collections: Assist with digitizing special and at-risk materials, support ontology and metadata research, organize and ingest digital records, and contribute to virtual exhibits and digital media projects.
- Research Analysis: Contribute to bibliometric and research impact analyses that help assess organizational research trends and visibility.
- Rotate through library operations to gain familiarity with each area of library services to include ILS functions, Interlibrary Loan, Acquisitions, Collection Development, Web Services, Instruction, and Support Services.
- Special projects as determined based on course needs and Library relevance.
Requirements:
- Must be pursuing a Masters or a PhD in Library Science, Information Science, Communications, or related field.
- 0 years: Intermediate to advanced experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Preferred but not required: Beginner to advanced experience with JSON, XML, python, javascript, and/or R.
- Preferred but not required: Instructional, tutoring, teaching, or presentation experience.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
