Archive Internship
In this role you will…
- Acquire knowledge relating to the site, its history and contents. As well as the history of Harrow, the Collection, its contents and organization.
- Learn the correct procedures and policies associated with cataloguing, used in the archival sector across the United Kingdom.
- Be able to work to a high standard independently and in small groups.
- Undergo training in archival the systems and procedures that the museum uses.
- Work using both written and computerized systems confidently after sufficient training.
- Handle the Archive’s extensive collections of papers and photographs, in varying levels of conservation.
- Help represent and promote the museum and its activities in a positive way.

- Fluent in spoken English and has excellent communication skills, particularly in writing.
About the Organization:
In 1965, the boundaries of London were reorganized to reflect the urban sprawl that had developed in the 20th century. This year, many of the outer London Boroughs will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of this change. To help celebrate we will be conducting a ‘The and Now’ project, identifying the locations in our photographic collection to help track developments in the borough. You will be fleshing out the catalogue entries of the photographic collection, including location information, contents of the images and describing changes. There may be some digitization involved including image editing.

On-site Supervision and Support
Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance.
Academic Credit
Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
