Position Title: Lifeguard

Building: Mason High School / Mason Public Schools / In-Person

Reports to: Pool Supervisor

Qualifications Required:        

  • 15 years of age or older.
  • Maintain current Lifeguard certification, current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in interacting with people of various ages from diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to work an extended time sitting and/or standing and in humid indoor conditions.
  • Physically fit and able to ensure safety of others in the water.

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • 6+ months related Lifeguard experience.
  • Competitive swimming and/or coaching experience (for those interested in coaching).

 

Job Description:

  • Maintaining active supervision for safety of events (including but not limited to: open swim, lap swim, water fitness classes, special events, community events, swim meets, water polo games, private pool rentals, swim lessons).
  • Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to ensure the safety of patrons.
  • Monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger.
  • Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations/behaviors.
  • Responding to emergencies in and out of water. Performing CPR, AED, and first aid procedures as needed.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of all areas.
  • Maintaining records and reports and consistent communication with Pool Supervisor.
  • Collecting money from participants for community events or private rentals.
  • Teaching children’s swimming lessons and hosting private pool rentals as assigned.
  • Attend all required staff training and in-services.
  • Maintaining building security by checking door locks and checking for patrons at end of shifts.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with some travel to other schools or field trip locations

 

Pay/Benefits: $13.39/hour. Additional pay for other job assignments at the pool. School retirement plan and earned paid time off. 

 

Schedule: Variable schedule depending on pool schedule and need.

  • Evenings and weekends during the school year.
  • Daytime, evening and weekends in the summer.
  • Possible early morning weekday (5:45am-7:45am) hours are available for right candidate.
  • Additional hours are available for those interested in coaching with Mason Area Swim Club.
