Summer Research Intern

Background and Job Description:
The Briteseed Engineering Team is seeking a Sumer Engineering Intern to join our efforts to advance the development of real-time optical detection systems. We are designing the first integrated tissue detection system into surgical tools and are seeking a passionate, self-motivated engineer to support the development and testing of next-generation spinal surgery devices. This is an entry-level summer position, and applicants with a strong interest in surgical sciences, pre-clinical testing, and data analysis will be given priority. Technical and pre-clinical projects include: developing and testing tissue detection systems, data analysis, prototype validation, and experimental design.Education:
• Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s degree program in Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences or related field (e.g. other scientific discipline with a focus in medicine, medical devices, or biotechnology)Preferred Skills & Expertise:
• Experience in research/engineering/clinical lab setting preferably with ex vivo tissue preparations
• Scientific or medical writing/editing experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates excellent organization skills and prioritization of tasks
• Experience in MATLAB/Python or ability to understand and interpret MATLAB/Python code
• Statistics and data analysis experience
• Authorized to work in the United StatesOpportunities
• Design studies to investigate specific life science questions
• Generate reports and documents of the experimental results following good documentation practices
• Translate research discoveries into usable and marketable insights
• Interact with the company’s engineering, quality, and clinical personnel
• Gain significant experience working in a start-up environment and develop research, engineering, and pre-clinical testing skills
