Marketing Communications Intern

Marketing Communications Internship (Part-time, Unpaid, Hybrid-Winter 2026)

Hours: 3–5 hours per week, flexible schedule

About Us
Oakland Literacy Council is a 41-year-old nonprofit that kickstarts futures through adult literacy. Adults in Oakland County, Michigan, turn to Oakland Literacy to improve their reading, math, computer, and English language skills through one-on-one tutoring with trained volunteers and proven curriculum.

Internship Overview
We are seeking a motivated and creative Marketing & Communications Intern for the Winter Semester. This unpaid position is ideal for a college student majoring in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field who wants to gain hands-on experience and build a portfolio of work samples while supporting a meaningful cause. The intern will work approximately 3–5 hours per week on a flexible, hybrid schedule.

Key Responsibilities

-Develop and repurpose content about our impact and mission for a variety of audiences.
Create engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, and X).
-Write monthly e-mail newsletters for volunteer tutors and donors.
-Update and enhance content on the organization’s website.
-Develop Google Ads and short video ads for digital marketing initiatives.
-Assist with fundraising and donor relations as needed, such as mailing thank-you letters or conducting donor research.

Qualifications
-Current college student majoring in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
-Strong writing and editing skills, especially for news and feature writing.
-Experience with or interest in social media marketing and digital storytelling.
-Basic familiarity with Canva (preferred), a social media management tool like Hootsuite (we use an alternative called Zoho Social), and an email platform like Constant Contact (we use an alternative called Zoho Campaigns).
-Self-starter with good time management and attention to detail.
-Passion for nonprofit work and adult literacy.
