Mechatronics Research Intern
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES
We are seeking highly motivated interns to join a research project team. Each applicant will be evaluated based on their academic discipline, skills, and interest area. All students should be able to showcase skills both within their technical field, as well as in working with teams, problem solving, communication, and initiative.
Depending on the project you are assigned to these could be some of your key responsibilities:
System Design and Development:
- Assist in designing and developing mechatronic systems and components.
- Work on integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Support the development of control algorithms for automation systems.
Prototyping and Testing:
- Build and test prototypes for various mechatronic applications.
- Conduct performance testing and troubleshoot issues in hardware and software.
- Document test results and suggest improvements based on findings.
Software and Programming:
- Develop and implement code for microcontrollers, PLCs, or embedded systems.
- Use simulation tools to model and analyze system behavior.
- Assist in programming robotic systems and automation solutions.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and analyze data from sensors and system components.
- Use data to optimize system performance and ensure reliability.
Collaboration and Innovation:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative solutions.
- Support ongoing R&D projects and contribute to technical discussions.
Skills/Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical design, electronics, and control systems.
- Hands-on experience with robotics, automation, or sensor integration is a plus.

On-site Supervision and Support
Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance.
Academic Credit
Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.
