Brain Balance Intern

Brain Balance of Oakland County Internship Description

Brain Balance is the leading holistic, developmental, drug-free, personalized program that identifies, rebuilds, and restores gaps in development, so children and adults can reach their fullest potential. Brain Balance of Oakland County is located in Rochester Hills, MI. We are a Board Certified Cognitive Center that has been serving the community since 2015. We have received numerous Community Awards including Best Staff, Best Customer Service, and Best Tutoring Center. We are offering an unpaid internship for energetic and hard working students to support the growth of our center and uphold our mission to support as many children as we can.

Our program days are Monday from 1:30pm- 8pm and Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30pm to 7:30pm. This schedule equates up to 18.5 hours per week. Interns are required to be available during program days and times. If adjustments are needed, scheduling can be discussed with the site supervisor. Interns are expected to adhere to the Brain Balance dress code. Brain Balance shirts will be provided and should be worn with black loose fitting, comfortable, and/or athletic pants or khakis. Jeans and leggings are not dress code appropriate and should not be worn.

The center is a fast paced environment. Interns will be trained as coaches to support students with achieving their goals outlined in their individualized program plans. Brain Balance has two rooms that support students with their growth and development. The cognitive room and sensory motor room are supplied with the tools and equipment needed for sessions. Interns will be trained to work with students in each room. During daily sessions, students engage in visual and auditory processing activities, physical exercise, reading fluency and comprehension, and sensory and whole-brain integration activities between both spaces. A reliable and consistent work ethic, along with an enthusiastic and encouraging attitude, are the most important qualities of an effective coach! Along the way, you will forge caring relationships and track progress and data that allow us to help students break through barriers.

The objectives of the internship require flexibility in a dynamic environment, the ability to multitask, and eagerness to learn. We strive to make program engaging and fun while providing quality support to promote students’ progress. Objectives of the internship include:

● Leading students (ages 4-18) through individualized sensory and sensory motor programs to help them reach age appropriate levels of function

● Creatively motivate, encourage, redirect and manage behaviors, as appropriate

● Model and engage active, fast-paced and physical activities and demonstrate exercises on floor and/or equipment

● Track and report data to evaluate student performance and progress using standardized developmental protocols Interns will be supported and work alongside a team of amazing coaches.

A Center Director will supervise and meet with interns as needed throughout the semester.
