The Fowler Center is looking for enthusiastic, supportive, and caring individuals to be part of our 2026 summer camp team.
Spend 10 weeks of your summer on 200 acres of beautiful countryside in the Thumb of Michigan. Days are filled with laughter, songs, activity, fresh air, and new adventures. Learn how to support individuals with developmental disabilities. Connect with staff from all over the state of Michigan, the US, and various countries around the world. Grow in both your professional and personal life as you directly impact our campers and their families.
Job Responsibilites……
- Assist campers with personal care based upon individual needs (this includes dressing, toileting, showering, teeth-brushing, feeding, etc.),
- Provide direct supervision of campers to ensure their safety at all times.
- Guide and assist campers in a range of outdoor activities including boating, swimming, fishing, crafts, sports, archery, music, campfires, small animals, nature hikes, etc.
- Adapt a multitude of activities to help your campers participate to the best of their ability.
- Participate in camp community life yourself while encouraging your campers to do so: dressing for theme days, singing, cabin tidying, clean table after meals, etc.
- Work in collaboration with other staff to make it a rewarding, safe, and positive camp experience for everyone.
- Enforce camp rules/regulations to ensure the safety of campers and staff.
- Complete daily documentation as required by licensing, funding, and agency policy.
- Dispense daily topical medications for campers and keep Camp Nurse apprised of any health concerns.
- Participate in training activities that are provided by the Agency for professional growth and skill development, including pre-camp orientation.
- Set-up/clean-up of recreation equipment.
- Activly welcome parents, guardians, caregivers, and families throughout the check-in process.
- Other duties as assigned.

Applicant Requirements….
- Age 18+ with a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Have a passion for working with individuals with disabilities.
- Be Flexible, Compassionate, and Positive.
- Meet the State's Moral Character Standard
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Manage time and multiple priorities, meets deadlines.
- Exercise professional judgement in making decisions.
- Complete assigned tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
- Perform physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, shoveling, pulling/pushing (up to 150 lbs.), climbing, and lifting (up to 75 lbs.), in order to perform various tasks.
- Must be able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
- Adhere to all applicable safety and health policies and procedures.
- Able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
