Folk Art Intern-Alapocas Run and Wilmington State Parks
The Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park is home to the Delaware Folk Art Collection. The collection features pieces from 54 Delaware artists. In addition to the substantial collection, the Division of Parks and Recreation has many other pieces stored in an offsite location. The Folk Art Education Intern will be responsible for assisting the Folk Art Collection team with monthly programming creation and implementation for all age groups. The Intern will work with park staff, including industry professionals, and assist the Folk Art Collections Specialist on occasion with various task. The Intern must be able to drive and maintain a valid driver’s license, a park vehicle will be made available to them to travel between the park and the storage facility or other park locations.
Interns will also participate in intern-wide professional development activities and experiential learning opportunities that may require them to be off-site or away from their placement. Each intern will complete a personalized “demonstration of learning” project. At the conclusion of the internship, all interns will present their projects during a poster session for peers and Delaware State Parks staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with programming staff to develop creative programming or event ideas to market the Folk Art Collection and increase visitation
• Participate in the daily housekeeping procedures for the exhibition and repository
• Participate in Delaware State Park Collections meetings
• Complete a Demonstration of Learning Project that benefits the collection and encompasses learning targets for internship
• Other duties as necessary or assigned by supervisors
