Engineering Intern - Energy Production

Position Purpose

This internship supports MGE’s Energy Production team with technical analysis, operational support, and project assistance while building foundational knowledge and professional skills in the utility and energy industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring and analyzing power plant performance metrics, including efficiency, output, and reliability.
  • Support engineering staff in troubleshooting operational issues and implementing process improvements.
  • Collect and organize data for equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and compliance reporting.
  • Participate in environmental and emissions tracking activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on projects related to renewable integration and plant optimization.

Education

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on Electrical Engineering.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours/week) during summer: mid-May through late August.
  • Fully onsite in our Madison-based power plants.
  • Additional part-time (15–20 hours/week) availability during fall and spring semesters based on business needs.
