Research and Innovation Intern

Summary

Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) operates five drinking water treatment plants and one water resource recovery facility. The Research and Innovation team at GLWA conducts research in collaboration with universities and consulting companies to provide the best solutions and technologies to enhance treatment processes and meet the needs of the treatment plants. The internship program developed by the Research and Innovation team will provide an opportunity for students to engage in both water and wastewater related research projects such as the application of hydrothermal liquefaction in bio-solid management and bio-crude production, the use of drinking water treatment pilot plants to evaluate treatment processes and technologies, the development of water safety plan for evaluating risks and controls, bio stability assessment of drinking water system, and a few other tailored collaboration projects. The interns will also have the opportunity to develop skills in data analyses and management, experimental design, basic laboratory skills, computing, and team

 

Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
1. Assist in sample collection and analyses
2. Assist in pilot plant operational activities
3. Conduct statistical and data analyses of reported and generated data
4. Assist in obtaining information from other water and wastewater utilities

 

Required Education and Experience

At the time of application, applicant must:

 

• Currently enrolled in an associate, bachelor’s or master's degree program with an accredited college or university

• Currently enrolled in a related degree program to the internship in which they are applying

• A student in good standing and classified by their institution as a rising sophomore or higher

• Able to commit to working at least 20 hours per week

• Able to commit to the intern position for a minimum of two months

 

Other requirements:

Valid Driver's License
