Term: Summer Intern (Full-Time, Temporary)
Position Summary
The Intern MEP/FP Engineer supports the design and coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems across a variety of building projects. This role provides hands-on exposure to engineering workflows, building codes, BIM modeling, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The ideal candidate has strong technical curiosity, attention to detail, and a desire to learn within a professional consulting engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design, analysis, and layout of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
Perform engineering calculations and system modeling using software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and discipline-specific tools.
Update BIM models with ducts, piping, conduits, and fire protection components; assist in developing coordinated MEP/FP drawings.
Conduct research on products, equipment, codes (IBC, IMC, NEC, NFPA), and industry standards.
Assist with the preparation of engineering reports, specifications, and submittal reviews.
Attend internal and external coordination meetings and assist with resolving cross-discipline design issues.
Participate in construction site visits to observe MEP/FP installations, document conditions, and assist with reviewing RFIs and field questions.
Help maintain drawing updates, organize project files, and assist with internal quality-control processes.
Participate in team training sessions and contribute to ongoing improvements in design workflows and project delivery.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field.
Introductory coursework or familiarity with Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Circuits, etc.
Experience with Revit or AutoCAD preferred; exposure to BIM workflows is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Interest in the building design and construction industries.
