Intern - Mechanical Design
Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI), located just north of Boston, MA seeks rising Juniors and Seniors with experience in mechanical design, simulation, and/or testing for an internship supporting our project Compact Litter Assist for Warfighters (CLAW).
PSI is developing an assistive device to enable soldiers to carry litters (medical stretchers) for longer distances with decreased effort. PSI has constructed and tested initial prototypes and will be working on ergonomic and usability refinements, along with preparing the design for manufacture. This device will improve patient survivability by decreasing medical extraction time and reducing litter carry team size.
The responsibilities of the intern supporting this project include:
- Working with PSI engineers to perform a design for manufacture study
- Conducting FEA simulations to predict component stress and deformation
- Assisting prototype manufacturing
- Conducting tensile testing
- Analyzing test data
- Interfacing with end-users to gather design feedback
- Assisting engineers with other design/test/manufacturing tasks as needed
During this internship, the candidate will work with experts in the field to gain experience performing computer aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), design for manufacture (DFM), and mechanical testing.
This internship may be most beneficial for students pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Product Design.
Hourly Wage Range : $20-$35
Candidates must be a US citizen.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
